Job Summary:

Assist the Wastewater Operations Foreman and the Wastewater Operations Operator II in the daily activities of the wastewater operations.  This includes maintenance, monitoring, inspection and repair of District Wastewater operation facilities. Assist in the process of daily work for the crew.  Responsible for assisting the Wastewater operations staff in promoting the District's mission through safe collections of sanitary sewer.

Prior Work Experience: One year of job-related prior work experience preferred.
Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Licenses, Certifications, Etc.:

1 - Commercial Driver's License; Class B with Tanker and Air Brake endorsements or ability to obtain within a specified time frame. 

2- Utah State Wastewater Collections Grade IV certification preferred.


Background Knowledge:

  1. Ability to perform general mechanical, plumbing and electrical repair and service for District Wastewater Operation Facilities.
  1. Ability to operate small equipment and hand tools.
  1. Requires basic knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection industry.
  1. Requires basic knowledge in computer use skills.


Performance Expectations:

  1. Must have the ability to regularly operate and service wastewater operational facilities.
  1. Must be able to make logical decisions using generally recognized skills and techniques.
  1. Must have ability to learn and practice proper safety procedures including, but not limited to, traffic control, lock out tag out, and confined space entry.
  1. Must be able to read and understand maps, drawings and GIS data.
  1. Must perform all job tasks in compliance with GHID safety policies and procedures.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Must be able to apply common sense, and conduct analysis as required solving certain problems. Such work may include use of small and large equipment in inspection, cleaning maintenance and construction of Wastewater Operation Facilities.
  2. Must have ability to operate small equipment and hand tools.
  3. Must be able to verbally communicate with division staff and on occasion with the public and business vendors. Must be able to communicate using simple hand signals during normal operation of large equipment. 
  4. Must have basic skills with general office equipment, computers and computer software.

  4. The employee must lift weight or exert force as follows:

Regularly: 1 to 25pounds

Frequently: 25 to 100 pounds

Occasionally: 100 plus pounds

e.  Specific vision abilities include:  

Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less. 

Ability to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus.

f.  Must be able to tolorate noise levels from moderate to very loud.

 2. Challenging working conditions within wastewater operational facilities. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Frequent    exposure to moderate noise, airborne particles, oils, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration, wet or humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, near street traffic or confined spaces.

Overall Effort and Work Location:

  1. Provides daily direct service to wastewater staff. Provides occasional service to the District customers, and employees.
  2. Must be able to withstand daily mental strain and pressure. Must be flexible to adjust for constantly changing operations.
  3. Work is generally performed during normal business hours. Must be able to work a predictable and consistent schedule with occasional after hours work as may be required and determined by the changing circumstances. Must be able to fulfill emergency first response call responding to District emergencies as needed.
